Learning at Work in conjunction with Hibernia College (an on-line college based in Eire) and Nuneaton Training Centre have recently won one of the 2010 ALP Electronic Content Creation tenders to develop a national e-enabled teacher training for the FE/Skills sector
The outcome will be improved and increased qualified e-enabled teaching capacity with multiplier impact on the achievement of the learning and skills needs of individuals, communities, employers and the economy. The project design is to provide a wide range of accessible learning materials hosted on a highly sophisticated delivery platform.
The technologies deployed will include:
- Online & on-demand interactive lessons (released to students on a planned schedule)
- Online Live Synchronous Tutorials (which are recorded offering playback options)
- Social Networking Tools (similar to Facebook or Bebo)
- Chat / Instant Messaging
- Online Journal / Blog /e-Portfolio
- Forum (asynchronous)
- Document Repository
- Progress Tracking
The Learning at Work website is presently undergoing a complete redesign in order to make it a more user friendly, informative and interactive site. The website will go live from late March and will include comprehensive open access areas and LaW consortium membership sections. The inclusion of a ‘blog’ and ‘twitter’ will facilitate ongoing communication and wider participation in discussion and information dissemination. Hyperlinks to a wide range of sites will ease the frustrations associated with locating important documents and sector agencies e.g. LSIS, AoC, BIS; the site will also incorporate a ‘jargon buster’.
